5th Annual Mercifuls Spark of Love Toy Drive

A Little Show with a Big Heart

toydrive16_fiFirst of all we have to give a big shout out to all the people who show up for our show early in the morning after the Mooneye’s X-Mas Show and Drags. With so much going on at this time of year, these past two years the show has grown with an incredible amount of toys.

A big shout goes to the C-10 Club who collected four trucks full of toys at their annual toy drive at the Pomona Swap Meet. John Oro, Mercifuls Sargent of Arms and founding member of the C-10 Club was overjoyed by all the fantastic donations.

For those that may not be familiar with the show, each year the 13 members of the Mercifuls So Cal car club host a Spark of Love Toy Drive and Car Show. The show is held at their usual Sunday Morning spot, Glory Days Sports Grill on Woodruff, just north of Carson. The show is a quick and early little get together running from 9am-noon. Members, Jack Petitt and Chris Rasnick build and stripe custom trophies for Best of Show, Club Participation, Best Truck, Best Paint and Under Construction. The Best of Show winner also receives a $250.00 cash prize. The boys also built one for a Blacktop Pick. We chose a bitchen Thunderbolt clone from Richard Hall, member of Underoath. Watch for a feature on Richard’s Fairlane.

This year Raquel, Queen of Bail brought her Bond Girls for a meet and greet with the show attendees! They helped promote the show online and brought a car full of toys as well as prizes for all the participants.

Around 11am, Will Nash from the Long Beach Fire Department came over with a truck and trailer to load up the toys. He was blown away by all the donations. Last year we filled the trailer about 3/4 of the way. This year we filled the trailer and the truck!

Raffle prizes were donated by Autozone, Catalina Express, CPP, Fastlane Transportation, Happs Auto Supply, Home Depot, Melinda’s Flower Shop, O’Reilly’s Auto Parts, and Blacktop Magazine. University Trophy donated the trophy bases and plaques. After the great prizes were raffled, and the trophies were awarded we had a 50/50 raffle. Such a generous crowd as the 50/50 grew to $400.00.

There is one thing I must say, from behind the scenes. We have an incredible group of guys in the Mercifuls. The show is so easy to put on. Each member steps up and volunteers to do what ever they can, and it all works out really smoothly. No drama, no regrets or bickering. Incredible!

For this holiday season, I will be wishing that each one of you reading this has a group of friends they can rely on. It’s a blessed thing.

Merry Christmas to Everyone!
