Shelley Smatana

Silversmith

Shelley is a Los Angeles based silversmith originally from Houston, Texas.

She has lived in the South, East Coast, Midwest and West Coast. Prior to going back to silversmithing she ran Zombie Kitten Originals, a small retro clothing line that artistically explored atomic dish patterns, horror and Sci-fi themes.

Shelley holds a B.F.A in 3D Fine Arts from Moore College of Art and Design and was once a candidate for a M.F.A. in Sculpture from Indiana University.  She has always been drawn to architecture and minimalist sculpture.

Her work examines geometric patterns inspired by elements of 1930’s and 1950’s architecture. Translating these ideas into  wearable pieces of art creates a connection and engagement with architectural elements of the past.

Shelley’s approach to jewelry is as a one of a kind art piece that pushes the boundaries of what traditional jewelry is perceived to be.
