Rip’s B.A.D. Ride Car Show

The first-ever Car Show at the American Diabetes Association’s 14th Annual Rip’s B.A.D. Ride (Bikers Against Diabetes) came off without a hitch. Would’ve liked to see a few more cars, and all the cars that were there were really nice and a tough choice to choose a winner of the unique Best of Show trophy. Thank you to our lovely car show models Christine Fury (with the super cute cherries dress) and Madeline Von Melody (with the ruby red lips and shapely hips).

Thank you to all the participants! Joel and Mary Klass with their daily driver 1963 Mercury Monterey, Rob Green and his “Big Foot” 32 Ford Coupe, Robert Schooler’s 4 year build with his boys 1966 Chevelle 300 Post, Dan Palermo with his “bad-ass” orange 54 Chevy Panel, Mike Harrill rolled his ’06 Mustang GT Pace Car to help support Diabetes research, Scott Hegedos blew us away with his ’68 Camaro SS/RS, Dan O’Connor floored us with a ’31 Dodge on a ’87 4WD Blazer chassis, Scott and Patti Gieble pounded the ground with their 69 Road Runner, and Bob Fountain came in late with his ’65 Superformance Cobra.

Thinking that this event was a bike event that had cars our first thought for the trophy award would be to the car that best represented a “biker” lifestyle. If that was the case, the award would’ve went to Dan’s orange panel. For the most complete theme build the trophy would’ve went to Rob’s Big Foot 32 Ford. The cleanest car would’ve been a toss-up between Hegedos’s tubbed Camaro was really nice, and the Gieble’s Road Runner (which was also a fan favorite), The most unusual and probably most talked about was Dan’s ’31 Dodge 4×4. However the judges really dug the story of how Robert’s boys built the Chevelle after school while dad was at work. A really clean build, and pretty rare car that they made the decision to win the original hand made trophy.

BTW, the trophy was designed by us here at Blacktop and welded up by the boys at The 401k Club Hot Rod Shop with parts from Jerry’s Performance Engine, Bills Automotive Machine Shop and Cyclepath Cycle.

Thank you to Chae Polonia from the American Diabetes Foundation, Melissa Swizz at Anaheim/Fullerton HD (and ADA volunteer) for the opportunity to host the car show and all the great folks involved in the Rip’s B.A.D. Ride. We would be honored to host next years’ show.
